FAQ about the membership and membership fee
Where can I pay the membership fee?
You can easily pay your membership fee at the member portal, where you can pay your membership fee with an account card or credit card! On the portal you will also find the OCR-number so that you can pay the fee via bankal giro.
I want to become a member! What do I do?
Read more here.
What period does the corps membership concern?
The membership concerns one semester at a time. It says on the membership payment notice and on the member portal what semester you are paying for. Please observe that the spring semester doesn’t end until the first day of the autumn semesters. That means that we don’t have a summer semester. If a new semester starts without you having paid the membership fee your membership for that term is automatically ended.
Who has the right for reduced membership?
Reduced membership has been revoked. The last term when reduced membership can be granted is the spring term of 2010. An application for reduced membership for the spring term of 2010 must be sent in 2010-11-30 at the latest. It’s done via the same form as earlier. You'll find more instructions here.
How do I apply for reduced membership according to the 19-semester rule?
Reduced membership according to the 19-semester rule has been abolished since 2010-07-01. At the same time the membership fee however was reduced considerably.
I live abroad. How do I pay the membership fee from my country?
Please contact the Student Union Office for instructions of what you should do.
I don't have an internet banking service, giro payment service, Privatgiro or Plusgiro account. How can I pay the membership fee through bank giro?
You can make bank giro payments at most bank offices. You can also pay your membership fee through bank giro in a shop connected to Kassagirot. In the shop and in the bank office there are blank bank giro payment cards which you can fill out with the information (bank giro number, OCR number, name and address) from the membership notice which we have sent you. You can also make bank giro payments to most rural postmen.
I’ve moved. Shall I send in information about my change of address?
The most important thing is that you fill in a moving application to Svensk adressändring. MF will get your new address through KI who in its turn gets the information about your address from the national registration once a year. Since the update isn't that frequent you can inform KI about your address change and we’ll get the information about your new address faster. This you can do through Lyktan. You can also update your address through the Member portal if you want to be sure that we get your new address. It’s important that we have your right address so that the Mecenat card will be sent to the correct address. If you’ve forgotten to change your address before paying the membership fee it’s possible that the Mecenat card will be sent to the wrong address. If you suspect that this has happened, contact the Student Union Office.
I’ve got the membership payment notice even though I’m not going to study. What do I do?
You don’t have to do anything. If you want to continue being a member event though you’re not studying this term you can become a support member. Read more here.
I want to become a member but haven’t gotten a payment notice. What do I do?
We send out payment notices to students that are registered at the Karolinska Institute and everyone that was a member the last semester. First the notices will be sent out with an e-mail, then they’ll be sent with regular mail. If you haven’t gotten a payment notice even though you’re going to study at KI that might be because we haven’t gotten your current address. Log in at the Member portal. There you can see which address we have you registered on, change what’s wrong and add what’s missing. There you can also pay your membership fee with an account card or a credit card. If you can’t log in to the Member portal you will find the OCR number on the portal and thereby can pay the fee. If there isn’t a payment notice for the current semester at the portal, contact the Student Union Office and they will help you. Designate name, address, social security number, e-mail and course/ education.
My payment notice has incorrect information about me! What do I do?
If your name is wrongly spelled or written wrong in any other way you should primarily contact KI to get the mistake corrected at LADOK. Contact Lyktan or the Institution secretary at your institution. MF regularly updates its’ member register with information from LADOK. Also contact the Student Union Office if it’s a hurry to get the information correct, e.g. before ordering the Mecenat card.
If the address is wrong – see the earlier question "I've moved. Shall I send in information about my change of address?" for information about how to change your address.
Wait with paying the payment notice until the changes have been done. Otherwise the Mecenat card might be ordered with the wrong name or to the wrong address. You can control what’s registered on you at the Member portal <LÄNK>. You don’t need a new payment notice to be sent to you as long as the change is put in to the member register.
Do I have to be a member?
No, since July 1st 2010, it's no longer mandatory for Swedish university students to be members of a student union.
I’ve paid my membership fee but on the Member portal it says that it’s unpaid. What do I do?
The most common problem is that we haven’t gotten the right information with your payment. Usually it’s because you haven’t designated the OCR number when you paid via bank giro or sent it as a message instead. Control, through your internet bank or at the copy of the payment notice, what information that has been sent with your payment. If it’s not the exact same OCR-number (at the payment notice and on the one at the Member portal) then the payment must be registered manually in the member register and sometimes this isn’t possible since the information that was sent with the payment can’t be connected to someone. Contact the Student Union Office and also send them the information (message/OCR-number) that you sent with the payment.
Another common mistake is that you have paid the membership fee for the wrong semester. The OCR-numbers are unique for you and for each semester. If you apply the same OCR-number as the one from the last semester then the payment will be registered for that term and not the current one.
I haven’t received my Mecenat card!
The most common problem is that we have your wrong address or that the card hasn't come yet. Start by going to the Mecenat customer service site. There you can type your social security number and control if a card has been ordered to you and if it has been sent.
If it’s not ordered yet it might be because you paid your membership fee recently. At the Member portal you can log in and see if we’ve gotten your payment of the membership fee. Orders of Mecenat cards are sent to us at Mondays and Wednesdays (except during the summer, Christmas and New years). If we’ve gotten your payment and an order of a Mecenat card has been made then you should contact the Student Unions Office to see what the reason is for the delay. The most common fault is that we haven’t gotten information of the fact that you are registered as a student/graduate student at KI. The Mecenat card is only ordered to those who are registered as students/graduate students at KI. We get information about who’s registered through KI’s LADOK-system. You can contact Lyktan or your course-/institution secretary to see if you are registered, or you can control it yourself via LADOK at web.
If the Mecenat card has been ordered and sent out to you, according to Mecenat, but you haven’t received it yet then you should control on the Member portal if we’ve got your right address. If the address is wrong – see the question “I’ve moved. Shall I send in information about my change of address?” for information about how to change your address. Then contact the Student Union Office to see if the card has been returned to MF. If it is at MF then you may come to the Student Union Office and get it, otherwise the Student Union Office can help you contact Mecenat so that they will send you a new card.
If you seem to have the right address, you should contact the Studen Union Office who can see if the card has been returned to MF. If it is at MF, you can come to the Student Union and pick it up.
Always make sure that your name is on your door/mailbox so that the postman knows that you live there. If you are a lodger at someone’s home, or live in second hand apartment and haven’t made an address change for where you live; make sure that we have a c/o-address registered on you so that the Mecenat card and other mail can get there.
I have lost/been robbed of my Mecenat card and need a new one!
You can order a new card (which will be a double card) from Mecenat. You can order a new card here.
I have ordered a Mecenat card but I need it quickly!
You can order an expresscard from Mecenat. You can order it here. It costs 40 SEK.
The spelling is wrong on my Mecenat card. What should I do?
If your name is spelled incorrectly, you should begin with contacting KI so that we can get it right in LADOK. You should contact Lyktan or the Institution secretary in your Institution. MF will frequently update the members register with information from LADOK. You should also contact the Student Union Office if you’re in a hurry to get the registration right, e.g. if you are in need of ordering a Mecenat card.
If the address is wrong - please se above under "I've moved. Shall I send in information about my change of address?" for more information about how to change your address.
When the change is done, please contact the Student Union Office who can make sure that the new information has been sent to Mecenat and that a new card has been ordered.
I have just paid the member fee. I will not be able to receive my Mecenat card before I buy a SL student travel card. I need a proof of membership, can you mail it to me?
Your Mecenat card for the previous term is valid for a quite while during the new term so you can still use it for student discounts. You don't have to show a student-ID when buying the SL student travel card. However, you do need it when using your SL student travel card in order to show it when asked by the ticket inspectors.
I have been put on hold in the SSSB waiting-list
Contact KårX to make sure that your membership is registred in the SSCO union membership register. Please note that it will take a few days after you've signed your student union membership before your student union has entered it in the student unions' membership register.
If the problem persists, check that you have given the complete Swedish civic registration number (personnummer) and/or registered the same email address with SSSB and your student union. To have the same email address registered at both places is particularly important if you are a foreign student from another country than Sweden and haven't got a Swedish civic registration number (personnummer).
